Why are people hiding this important information? media in Ethiopia and everywherre don't talk about the details. That ruthless Ethiopian man "sammy" who killed the US embassy worker (Brian Adkins) is GAY and the killing was motivated with personal (relationship) matter than anything else! I was disappointed that Jimma times editor did not mention this information on its articles. Is it because it did not know the information or purposely hiding it? anyway, from what i heard, Sammy already had a homosexual relationship with the embassy worker. So there was no such thing as rape or "gay panic."
First of all whether the person was gay or not should not matter. The crime was innexcusable. It is sad some Ethiopians with HOMOPHOBIA are giving excuses for the barbaric murder and defending Sammy. Almost 60% of Ethiopians voting in support of the killer in the JT poll was shocking! Some Ethiopians would like to entertain a wild idea that gay Ethiopians don't exist at all. It is shameful. what kind of intolerant society are we becoming? Or should i say is this the new form of intolerance in ethiopia? First it was based on ethniicity, religious denomination, politics and now sexual orientation.
I wonder if those who voted for the killer in the poll would change their mind if they knew sammy was Gay and the two were very close. Sammy can't accuse the victim of gay rape! I have talked with people who saw the two men being together in internet cafes, restaurants and other places (including the Gay clubs in kazanchis). Brian allowed only sammy in his house and some even seen the two men kissing. As far as i know, sammy is just a cold-blooded killer and he does not have any excuse. he probably was angry that Brian was (i heard) finishing his embasy job and moving out of Ethiopia. sammy probably felt betrayed because brian was "abandoning" him. But not only for their relationship but maybe samy was feeling betrayed financially or he probably was trying to go to America. almost Every ethiopian wishes to go to america. So i can't say that Samy was Gay before he met brian or after because i have heard that there are dozens of Ethiopian Gay Men prostitutes (almost all of them pretend Gay and give Gay "services aka sex for foreigners asually hoping to get money or go to the WEst) This gay ethiopians work especialy in addis ababa, dessie, adama and awassa. Anyway what matters is that sammy was willing and having homosexual relationship with brian. So his lawyer can't use rape defence or "gay panic" defense. The judge should have given sammy life sentence in prison. Allowing sammy to be free after just over a dozen years is abad example of justice in ethiopia. also, people who defend violence against gay people can't have any moral authority left. most ethiopians especially say gay is "foreign" and un-ethiopian. It is the same old backward thinking where some vocal and "elite" ethiopians use religion, ethnicty and others to exclude some ethiopians. looking back at the country's history of what was defined "un-ethiopian" we can say over 70 percent of ethiopian population was "un-ethiopian" in the eyes of those shameful elites. And in a country where the herd mentality wins over common sense, it will take a long time before gay ethiopians get their freedom and become accepted.
